For those who already spend all their time scrolling, swiping and drooling through everyone else's vacation photos over social media comes a new app to encourage them to embark on their own travel adventures. Launched this week, it's called Hero Traveler (download for iOS).

The first travel-focused social media app is designed to help millennials and Gen Z-ers better plan their getaways with trusted advice from influencers and peers, as opposed to what they currently get from random strangers on review apps like Tripadvisor (download for iOS and Android) and Yelp (download for iOS and Android).

Developed by millennial- and Gen-Z-focused advertising agency Hero Group CEO and founder, Joseph Anthony, Hero Traveler allows users to create and share travel stories, videos, articles and reviews to inspire others, or take their own inspiration from influencer, insider or peer-created content.

After registering for an account, users can set vacation preferences, starting with their preferred travel experiences -- from 24 options including Adventure, Sports and Romance -- and then can follow friends or influencers that share their sensibilities. Then they'll get a personalized feed of content that's most applicable and interesting to them.

At that point, they can either post their own stories, including text, photos and-or video, or plan their next vacay by adding others' stories -- filtered by categories including Eat, See, Stay or Do for quicker access -- to Pinterest-board-like guides.

If any questions come up, users can just message influencers or friends for advice or, if they already have a gameplan in mind, for validation.

Armed with statistics from Internet and e-business research and analysis site, eMarketer, showing that 92 percent of millennials trust influencers more than celebrities or ads and predicting that 51.8 percent of travelers who complete digital bookings will do so over their mobile devices in 2019, Hero Traveler put together a global network of travelebrities -- influencers, creators and journalists -- on a social media platform that other users can access and take inspo from.

Knowing that millennials travel an average of five times per year and that 62 percent complete research on their smartphone and 75 percent plan trips that are influenced by social media, Hero's developers aim to streamline their existing travel planning process by bringing the necessary content and community to a single destination.

In time, developers promise the app will evolve to offer sponsored content and then ultimately become a commerce tool that allows users to book travel directly from the platform.
